I can’t exactly pinpoint when I adopted wellness as a holistic practice to promote greater balance and peace of mind while easing stress, but I definitely know what ignited it. Burnout was getting the best of me at the time and for some reason I possessed a strong conviction that a yoga retreat would help solve all of my problems. At the same time, Greece was on the top of my vacation list to visit for years.
I can recall years ago with both of these thoughts and wondering how I could swing both trips. Upon scrolling through the popular feed on my Instagram, I came across a flyer for a yoga retreat in none other than Greece (I can’t make this up). My manifestation was flexing hard, and I knew then and there I needed to be a part of this trip. I did not know the organizers or anyone going, and I’d honestly classify myself as a mediocre yogi at best but I was more than determined to make this trip happen–and I am so glad I did. This was five years ago. I have gone on one other yoga retreat since at a place called River Mountain in Pennsylvania, and being surrounded by nature, a farm, and good people and vibes was a win-win.
Needing to find tranquility and solitude, I booked a wellcation at Canyon Ranch at their Woodside, California property. Nestled outside of San Francisco and surrounded by beautiful redwood trees, this retreat was about as calm and peaceful as you can get. The spa experience was unforgettable, and I enjoyed the range of daily activities, including yoga sessions, painting with cocktail creations, nature walks, and healthy meals.
When life starts “lifing”, I strongly suggest booking a wellcation to slow down and put things into perspective. I’ve come to enjoy intentional vacations with mindful movements just as much as normal vacations. Bring your journal with you for even greater personal reflection (trust me–your soul will thank you for it). Wellcations are versatile in that they are great done solo or with a group. I can’t want to plan out my next wellcation soon!
